Victory saw the Iceman temporarily jump above Gurney and Mensur Suljovic onto 18 points, before the Northern Irishman ended his dreams with a win.
The Grand Slam champion averaged 98.58 to Snakebite's 95.61, hitting eight of 18 darts at double.
The two ton-plus checkouts from Price really made a difference; a 106 in the first leg, and 142 for a 12-darter to spark four consecutive legs to make it 6-2.
At the end of a miserable season for Wright, he hit two 100+ checkouts but missed seven of 10 double attempts.
Daryl Gurney claimed a huge victory over Michael Smith for him to qualify for the Play-Offs for the first time in his career.
The pressure was on after Price's win earlier, but SuperChin responded well with a brilliant display over the Bully Boy.
He ended Price's hopes of qualification, averaging 101.8, hitting five 180s and eight of 19 darts at double.
Gurney was not guaranteed a place at the O2, if Suljovic beat van Gerwen with a big leg difference and Wade picked up a point against Cross.
Van Gerwen quickly moved into a 4-0 lead over the Austrian, confirming Gurney's place in the semi-final next week.
Michael van Gerwen topped the regular season table for the seventh time in a row as he defeated Mensur Suljovic.
The Dutchman wasn't at his best, but still maintained his record of never finishing any lower than first in all previous seasons dating back to 2013.
Earlier results meant Suljovic needed to win by a margin of 8-3 or more to qualify for the play-offs, so as soon as MvG stormed into a 4-0 lead his dream was over.
Van Gerwen's 11-dart leg and a 126 checkout, before a finish of 72 gave him a 5-0 lead, before the Gentle dug deep to take five of the next seven legs.
The world number one averaged 97.73, hit three 180s and pinned eight out of 15 double attempts.
Despite being the favourite to top the table at the beginning of tonight's action, Rob Cross failed in his bid to become just the third player to top the league, losing 8-6 to James Wade.
If Voltage had managed to beat the Machine, it could have ended van Gerwen's six-year monopoly on the top spot, but he failed to deliver.
Hitting three 180s and a match high checkout of 126, but averaged just 92.39 and spurned 14 of his 20 attempts at doubles.
Wade played in a much more relaxed style, but his performance was not much better with an average of 94.4 and a checkout percentage of 29.63%.
