England - 351-9 / 297 - Pakistan
Joe Root hit 84 and captain Eoin Morgan 76, lifting the home side to 351-9, a total that could have been much higher if they had continued the way they started in Leeds.
Pakistan's spinners took control, especially Shaheen Afridi who finished 4-82.
Openers Jonny Bairstow (32) and James Vince (33) punished anything loose before Root and Morgan added 117 for the third wicket.
When Morgan became one of four England batsmen to fall to the short ball, it began a period where every home surge was halted by a wicket.
Jos Buttler (34) and Ben Stokes (21) made contributions, but there may be a slight concern over Moeen Ali, who registered a second successive duck.
Woakes, Willey and Curran played cameos, the latter's 29 from 15 balls full of entertaining swipes and scoops.
Chris Woakes reduced Pakistan to 6-3 after a burst with the new ball.
The debate around England's pace bowlers continues, with Woakes very much in contention after his first two overs.
On a surface offering just a hint of movement, his full length had Fakhar Zaman held at second slip, then both Abid Ali and Mohammad Hafeez lbw, before Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed shared a 146 partnership.
Adil Rashid run out Babar with a clever move - with his back turned, he backhanded the ball on to the stumps to leave Babar short, then took a brilliant flying catch from Shoaib Malik before Jos Buttler run out Sarfaraz.
Woakes finished with 5-54 as the tourists were all out for 297, losing by 54 runs.
