Lewis Hamilton too one step closer to the world title after dominating in France.
He took control from the start, leading at the first corner after converting pole position.
The Brit looked after his tyres in the opening stages, setting a steady pace, but as the pit stops approached he piled on the pressure.
His lead over Valtteri Bottas grew to five seconds within eight laps, and after a pit stop it ws extended to 11 seconds.
The 34-year-old took his sixth win in eight races, while teammate Bottas was second, the Brit seems to have found another gear to go into after him and Bottas were fairly evenly matched at the start of the season.
The five-time champion leads the Finn by 36 points after eight races, equating to a win and a fifth place.
Bottas was second but a long way behind, holding off Ferrari's Charles Leclerc on the final lap.
Leclerc's teammate Sebastian Vettel won the point for the fastest lap, the German finished fifth while Red Bull's Max Verstappen was in fourth.
Vettel - who finished first but was docked the win after a penalty in Canada - moved up to fifth after his seventh place start, but couldn't advance any further.
Monegasque Leclerc struggled to keep pace with Mercedes top two, but comfortably held on to the final podium position.

Lower down the race, Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris of McLaren converted third row grid positions into sixth and seventh placed finishes.
The Spaniard passed the Brit at the start, having qualified behind his teammate.
Norris lost hydraulic pressure late on, affecting the gears and steering and preventing him from using the drag reduction system (DRS) to overtake.
Renault's Daniel Ricciardo closed in, before Alfa Romeo's Kimi Raikkonen joined the mini race alongside second Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg.
Australian Ricciardo lost time with four laps to go, making a mistake and allowing Norris some breathing space.
But the Australian closed in again - and with no DRS, Norris was helpless as the Australian, Raikkonen and Hulkenberg pushed him down to 10th on the final lap.
