US Open Championship Golf, Day One - Rose has slender lead, four tied for second

Three successive birdies to finish round one gave Olympic champion Justin Rose a one-shot lead at Pebble Beach.

The 2013 US Open champion dropped only one shot, carding a six-under 65 at the California course.
The world number four birdied the fourth, eagled the sixth and birdied the seventh to go four under.
He bogeyed the eighth, but followed that with seven pars before the run of birdies to complete the joint-lowest score at Pebble Beach in the US Open.
He only needed one putt on 14 of the holes, and hit just 22 putts in total.

Three Americans are in the group in second - Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele and Aaron Wise are joined by South Africa's Louis Oostuizen one shot behind the Englishman.Fowler hit just one bogey in his round - the American has been in the top five at majors eight times, but is yet to win one.
2015 runner-up Oosthuizen holed three birdies on the back nine, while 22-year-old Wise didn't drop a shot after a bogey at the start of his round.
With an eagle at the last, Schauffele was clubhouse leader before Rose took top spot.

Rory McIlroy, fresh from his success at the Canadian Open last weekend, is on three under, with two-time back to back defending champion Brooks Koepka is a shot back from the Northern Irishman, while three-time champion Tiger Woods is on one under.
World number three McIlroy opened with a bogey but recovered to finish with a 68, improving on his last three first round scores at the US Open - 77, 78 and 80 in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively.
In all four of his major wins, McIlroy has carded opening rounds in the 60s (65, 67, 66 and 66 when he won the 2011 US Open, 2012 US PGA Championship, 2014 Open Championship and 2014 US PGA), including an eight shot win in the 2011 US Open at Congressional - but his wait for a fifth title is now at five years.
He started early at the 10th, brushing off a dropped shot there for a birdie at 13 and 17, and scrambling a par to go one under at the halfway point.
Back-to-back birdies - one from 12 feet - at the second and third moved him to three under.

Koepka hit four birdies in the first six holes to start his defence - the world number one is trying to become the second man to win three successive US Open titles - after Scotland's Willie Anderson (1903-05).
But a bogey at the eighth, a difficult back nine and another bogey at 17 saw the 29-year-old finish on two under.
16-time major winner Woods had held the record alone for the lowest score since 2000, winning his first US Open title by 15 shots.
The American was constantly scrambling to save par, carding 11 straight from the eighth - including a stunning 30-foot putt at the fifteenth.
Before that he had three birdies, but double-bogeyed shots at the par-three fifth - his only dropped shots of the day.

Graeme McDowell won the US Open nine years ago - the last time it was held at Pebble Beach. The Northern Irishman holed a bogey-free round, he's on two under with England's Matthew Fitzpatrick, Paul Casey, Matt Wallace and Tyrrell Hatton.
Hatton got to four under without a bogey in 15, but finished with three bogeys.
He will be looking to better his best finish at a US Open - tied for sixth last year at Shinnecock Hills.

Tommy Fleetwood finished with two bogeys to finish level, with compatriot Danny Willett and American Dustin Johnson.
Henrik Stenson finished strongly, with the Swede making four consecutive birdies from the fifth to post a 68, the same as Open champion Francesco Molinari, who birdied the last.
South African-born Rory Sabbatini, who now represents Slovakia, grabbed a hole-in-one at the 202-yard par-three 12th, cheering ecstatically as his bright yellow ball bounced twice before disappearing into the cup, before finishing on one over.
