The win took England one step closer to the World Cup semi-finals, but a hamstring injury to Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan's back spasm will be of concern for the rest of the tournament.
Both injuries were sustained while in the field in Southampton, an innings in which Windies were dismissed for 212, with Jofra Archer and Mark Wood each taking three wickets.
Barbados-born Archer opted to play for England after new residency rules and a British father meant he could qualify.
He had previously missed out on the West Indies squad for the Under-19 World Cup, and it proves to be their loss, as he is the leading wicket taker for England in the tournament so far.
But it was Liam Plunkett who struck the crucial blow - after the enigmatic Chris Gayle was dropped by Wood on 15, he pulled Plunkett to Bairstow at deep square leg for 36.
A stabilising stand of 89 between Shimron Hetmyer and Nicolas Pooran helped the Windies, with the latter making 63.
Adil Rashid made an increasingly typical poor start, while Joe Root caught and bowled both Hetmyer and captain Jason Holder.
Archer and Wood - who had passed a fitness test for an ankle injury earlier - saw the last five wickets fall for just 24 runs.
England exploited the damp conditions early on, then eased the run chase as the sun came out.
It could have been a difficult task to reach that total for Morgan's side without their skipper and opener Roy - who had seven weeks out with a similar injury earlier in the year.
Root deputised to open the batting and carried his bat with a century - becoming the first England batsman to hit three hundreds in World Cups.
The all-Yorkshire partnership with Jonny Bairstow made 95, and after the keeper uppercut Shannon Gabriel for 45, Root combined with Chris Woakes - who made 40 in at three - for 104, as England won by eight wickets with 16.5 overs to spare.
By the end, when Gayle was rolling out ineffective off-breaks while still wearing his cap, the gulf between two sides that drew a series 2-2 earlier this year was massive.
