Tammy Beaumont opened with a century for the hosts after Heather Knight put her team into bat.
The Kent opener hit 114 from 115 balls, before her dismissal led to a collapse from 187-6 to 217 all out, with the pick of the bowlers Delissa Kimmince who took 5-26 from 7.4 overs.
The win was wrapped up with more than four overs to spare, with Elysse Perry top scoring with 62.
The start of the match was near identical to the loss in the series opener, as Perry dismissed Amy Jones in only the second over.
Knight made a laboured 17 off 47 deliveries, before Ashleigh Gardner dismissed the England skipper.
Beaumont anchored the innings as she regularly lost her partners - her century featured 12 fours, the lowest boundary percentage of her six ODI hundreds.
Kimmince trapped Natalie Sciver lbw for 15, before Fran Wilson holed out to mid-wicket for eight.
Danni Wyatt made a fast start, but her 25 off 25 came to an end when she was caught by Alyssa Healy off Megan Schutt - whose first five overs went for just 13 runs.
From that point, England lost their final six wickets for 34 runs, without a boundary since Beaumont's dismissal in the 40th over.
Australia were reduced to 17-2 when Healy and Nicole Bolton were removed in successive overs.
Captain Meg Lanning went for 18 off Katherine Brunt at 59-3, but Brunt injured herself celebrating the dismissal and couldn't rejoin the bowling attack until the 31st over, by which point Australia were 126-4.
Anya Shrubsole brought England back into contention with two wickets - bowling Garnder through the gate for 13 at 158-6, but the total wasn't high enough to worry Australia as Beth Mooney and Jess Jonassen's unbeaten 60 partnership saw them home.
