Australia's win gives them a 2-0 lead in the multi-format series, as they bowled out England for 177.
They slipped to 19-4, after Tammy Beaumont hit the first ball to the boundary there was a total top-order capitulation.
On-form Amy Jones - five half-centuries in last six ODIs - was out for a duck when she top edged Perry behind.
The next three wickets fell with the score at 19 - Beaumont dragged on, Sarah Taylor was bowled through the gate and captain Heather Knight was trapped lbw for a nightmare start on a good batting pitch.
Nat Sciver restored some composure, with a top score of 64 for England, littered with glorious cover drives.
Fran Wilson (15), Katherine Brunt (20), Laura Marsh (24*) and Sophie Ecclestone (27) all contributed in a well-constructed end of the innings.
Ellyse Perry took 3-43 for Australia, before they chased down the target with two wickets to spare having been 105-5, Alyssa Healy top-scored for the visitors with 66.
England were looking good with the ball but couldn't finish off the Aussies, with Brunt dismissing captain Meg Lanning and having Healy dropped.
The spin duo of Ecclestone and Marsh took a combined 5-65 to ensure a tight finish but Australia held on to win in their first official match in four months.
The bowling to England's top order was impeccable, backed up by a near perfect fielding performance - including a one-handed catch by Rachel Haynes to dismiss Anya Shrubsole.
With the bat, Healy was her usual imperious self at the top of Australia's chase, the right-hander demonstrated brute strength clearing the ropes twice.
Their chase was halted by regular wickets; the highest partnership was 29 and numerous players fell to very soft dismissals having got a start.
In the end they creeped over the line - in bizarre fashion as Brunt bowled five wides - and landed the first blow.
