Australian captain Meg Lanning led by example with a record-breaking 133 not out as England lost the first Twenty20 at Chelmsford.
England - 133-9 / 226-3 - Australia
Lanning broke her own record for the highest score in a Women's Twenty20 international on the way to inflicting England's biggest T20 defeat.
The win also means that England can no longer draw the series, and Australia have won the series, as they increased their lead to 10-2, and retained the Ashes outright.
Lanning's innings consisted of 17 fours and seven sixes in making 133 not out from 63 deliveries, leading her team to 226-3 in Chelmsford.
England could only manage what Lanning scored on her own, finishing on 133-9 for a 93-run defeat.
Lanning's previous best was 126 which she made against Ireland over five years ago, Sterre Kalis equalled the record for Netherlands against Germany last month, but Lanning is back to the top of the tree now.

A new ICC ruling on the full international status of some cricket-playing nations has somewhat skewed the records for the highest innings total for a team, with an inexperienced Mali side conceding three of the four highest totals in women's T20 history in the space of three days last month.
Not including those three matches, Australia's total is the second highest in the format's history, surpassed only by England's 250-3 against South Africa at Taunton last summer.

Beth Mooney had made 54 from 33 balls in a second wicket stand of 134, before Lanning stole the headlines.
The 27-year-old gave England's bowlers and fielders no answer to her destructive hitting, with only the once chance to dismiss her put down by Tammy Beaumont at backward point on 85.
After 14 successive wins at "Fortress Chelmsford", Australia were the ones to break England's streak in the Essex county town.
Spinner Sophie Ecclestone took a brace of wickets, but England's seamers took a beating, none more so than Anya Shrubsole - England's leading wicket taker in T20s -whose three overs went for 50.
Australia peppered the boundary with such ease that only one two was run in the entire innings.
While the hitting was outstanding, the fielding was sloppy - even reliable boundary fielders like Danni Wyatt struggle to stop it when Lanning was firing.
It would have needed to be, obviously, a record-breaking run chase for England, but they never really threatened it with both openers out for ducks, soon slumping to 22-4 with the match pretty much over before the end of the six-over powerplay.
Lauren Winfield made 33 off 27 balls to provide the slightest glimmer of hope for England, making her first appearance in this series - other than carrying the drinks - after Sarah Taylor's mental health problems caused her to withdraw from the series.
Laura Marsh at 10 showed why she used to open the batting in ODIs, hitting Megan Schutt for two sixes, with the crowd cheering despite knowing the match was already long gone.
