Cricket World Cup Semi-Final: Australia vs England, Edgbaston - England thrash Australia to set up final against Kiwis

England won by eight wickets at Edgbaston, meaning they will play in their first World Cup final in 27 years.

Australia - 223 / 226-2 - England
Hosts England will have a chance to win their first ever World Cup against New Zealand on Sunday, after one of their best performances of the tournament saw them past Australia.
The win over their old rivals was their first victory in a World Cup knockout match since 1992, and will live long in the memory for England fans, justifiably alongside anything from the 2005 Ashes or the 2010-11 tour of Australia.

Australia chose to bat, but it was England who started the better.
Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer struck with the new ball, reducing the Aussies to 14-3 after seven overs.
Cheers for the early wickets at Edgbaston - a ground where Australia haven't won since 2001 - were nearly as loud as the boos for Steve Smith and David Warner.
Archer trapped Aaron Finch lbw with his first ball, before Warner fended Woakes to first slip and then bowled Handscomb through the gate.
Alex Carey appeared not to have done his helmet up tight enough, when a bouncer from Archer removed it from his head and was on course to hit the stumps before the Australian caught it.
He was left with a severe cut to the chin, but still went on to make 46 in a stand of 103 with Smith.
The next wicket came at 117-4, when Carey holed out off Adil Rashid, who removed Marcus Stoinis in the same over, before Pat Cummins edged him to slip to finish with 3-54.

Smith steadied the ship with 85, helping Australia to 223 giving them a hope of defending their total.
He remained as the wickets fell, only to be run out brilliantly by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler at the non-striker's end with a throw that somehow went through Smith's legs, but didn't deviate as it hit the middle stump with the batsman a few inches short.

A prolific opening partnership from Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow soon allayed any fears of tournament-leading wicket-taker Mitchell Starc, adding 124 for the first wicket.
As the two right-handers went through the gears, Finch's gamble to bring Smith into the attack didn't go well - his first and only over going for 21, with Roy hitting three consecutive sixes - the last of which into the fourth tier of the main stand.
Bairstow was trapped lbw by Starc for 34, it seemed a bizarre decision that Jonny Bairstow chose to review it - ultraedge and balltracking showed that it was indeed out, and the review was wasted.
A decision that would come back to bite Roy, who was wrongly given out when a Pat Cummins delivery carried to Carey.
Roy thought it should have been a wide as it was high down the leg side, but replays also showed that he hadn't touched the ball on its way through.
Roy hit 85 before Joe Root and Eoin Morgan eased the chase home with an unbroken 79 with 17.5 overs to spare.

It was announced soon after England's win that the World Cup final would be broadcast live on free-to-air television.
Channel 4 agreed a deal with rights-holders Sky Sports to show their coverage from 9AM before it switches to More 4 at 1:15PM while the British Grand Prix takes place before changing back to Channel 4 after the race.
Live cricket has not been available on free-to-air TV in the UK since England's famous victory over Australia in the 2005 Ashes.

England captain Eoin Morgan said it is "really important for cricket" that Sunday's final is available to watch.
"It's cool, it's great that everyone gets the chance to see it," he said. "The 2005 Ashes was the moment for me when cricket became cool. That whole summer it was on all the front and backpages, everywhere. I don't think we will understand the impact until after the tournament when the guys go home. We will be recognised more than before."

Former England captain Alastair Cook said it is a "fantastic move" from Sky to allow the final to be shown free-to-air and it can "inspire the next generation".
"It's a once on a lifetime opportunity for these players to play in a home World Cup and to have this opportunity to put it on free-to-air, so hopefully many more millions of people can watch it and hopefully see an England win. It can inspire the next generation. If they win the World Cup, the first 50-over tournament England have ever won, it can only be a good thing for cricket. And then amazingly a week-and-a-half later we start an Ashes series so it could be a very, very special eight or nine weeks for English cricket."
