England closed on 231-4 in St Lucia, after falling to 69-3.
An unbeaten 62 and 67 from Stokes and Buttler respectively dominated the evening session with England's first century partnership of the series, the pair putting on 124.
Stokes had walked on 52 when Joseph bowled and caught him, but following a consultation with the third umpire, it was adjudged a no-ball.
The all-rounder was in the dressing room when the decision was finalised, the law permitting players to cross the boundary rope and resume their innings was changed in 2017.
England's display at the crease gives them a chance of avoiding a series whitewash, with the hosts currently 2-0 up.
Jennings was recalled to open the batting, pushing Denly down to three, with the former dismissed for eight off Keemo Paul, in for the suspended captain Holder.
Burns made a patient 29 from 109 balls before being out lbw to Paul.
Shannon Gabriel trapped Denly lbw for 20 in the over after Jennings' dismissal.

Before this game, England only had one total of more than 200 in their four innings in this series, a disappointing performance.
The same was feared of today's play, with the top three out for 69 in total and Root making a mere 15 leaving the score at 107-4 at tea.
Buttler started nervous but grew into the innings, while Stokes was aggressive from the outset - overtaking Buttler's score to reach the half-century first, only England's fourth of the series.
Root has now gone seven innings without scoring a fifty, the joint-longest run without a half-century in his career.
If he fails to do so in the second innings it will be the first time he has not passed 50 in a series.
England are now three innings away from the Ashes and are still unsure about any of their top three batting positions.
