FA Cup Fifth Round and Quarter-Finals Preview

This weekend saw 16 become 8 in the FA Cup, and with no scores to settle in replays, all eyes are firmly on the quarter finals, with the contenders one win away from Wembley.

QPR 0-1 Watford
For the second time in four seasons, Watford are in the quarter-finals, edging past QPR at Loftus Road.
Etienne Capoue scored from Watford's only shot on target just before the break, the Frenchman diverted Tom Cleverley's mis-hit.
The Championship side went close through Luongo and Wells, the latter being denied by a great Gomes save on his 38th birthday.
QPR skipper Toni Leistner spurned a great chance to force extra-time, missing from point-blank range after Darnell Furlong's cross in the closing stages.

Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 Derby County
Ashley Cole scored his first competitive goal in English football for six and a half years, but it wasn't enough to prevent Brighton progressing at the expense of Frank Lampard's Derby County.
The Premier League strugglers looked in total control after goals from Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia in the first half.
However, former Chelsea and Arsenal defender Cole headed in for Derby to reduce the deficit near the end, making for a nervy final ten minutes.
Having twice come from 2-0 down to reach this stage, the Rams pushed for an equaliser but the hosts held on to make the quarter-finals in consecutive seasons.
The Seagulls have made it to the last eight only three times prior to this season, they are bidding to reach the semi-finals for the first time since losing in the 1983 final.

AFC Wimbledon 0-1 Millwall
Neil Harris labelled goalscorer Murray Wallace as an "FA Cup hero", after Millwall narrowly beat AFC Wimbledon
The defender scored late on against Everton, and headed home in the fifth minute at Kingsmeadow.
Moments earlier, Joe Pigott had struck the post at the other end for the hosts.
That was the best chance that AFC Wimbledon had throughout the match, with the Lions looking more likely to score and extend their lead.
Millwall look forward to their third quarter-final in seven years, and second in the last three.
After upsetting Premier League West Ham in the fourth round, AFC Wimbledon could not produce such a display again.
Millwall's position 28 places higher in the league pyramid just about told, and Harris' team are in a relegation battle themselves and sit just two points above the Championship drop zone.

Newport County 1-4 Manchester City
Newport County's memorable cup run came to an end at the hands of Manchester City.
After beating Leicester City and Middlesbrough, County produced another strong display to hold Pep Guardiola's men at the interval.
Phil Foden's brace and goals from Sane and Mahrez denied them the chance to become the first side from the fourth tier to reach the last eight since 1990.
Ederson produced a diving save to deny the best chance of the first half - Tyreeq Bakinson's close-range header.
Sane broke the deadlock from close range six minutes after half time, and Foden doubled the advantage with a stunning solo goal.
Padraig Amond maintained his record of scoring in every round of the competition, scoring a late goal that gave the hosts brief hope of a fightback.
Foden then ensured there was no grandstand finish with his second goal moments later, Mahrez scored a fourth in injury time.
Newport County's fans gave their side a standing ovation at full time as their weary players did a lap of honour.

Bristol City 0-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Wolves came out victors against a resilient Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Nuno Espirito Santo's side have made it to the last 8 for the first time since 2003
The game's first shot brought the only goal of the encounter, Ivan Cavaleiro stroked home after Matt Doherty crossed from the right.
They could have extended their lead further before the interval, going close through Doherty and Leander Dendoncker.
After the break, the hosts noticeably improved, with Dasilva and Taylor both pressuring the narrow Wolves lead.
Bristol City could not find an equaliser after all their pressure in the latter stages - in the last minute of added time, Robins keeper Fielding saw a shot saved by opposing counterpart Ruddy after going up for a corner.

Doncaster Rovers 0-2 Crystal Palace
The football pyramid separates these teams by 36 places, the Eagles took the lead when Jeffrey Schlupp shot low into the net after some good dribbling.
Meyer then headed home on the stroke of half time, from an Andros Townsend cross.
Doncaster were aiming to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
The hosts had a better second half but Whiteman's shot was saved by Wayne Hennessey, Alfie May headed over from close range and James Coppinger's effort was deflected wide.

Swansea City 4-1 Brentford
Swansea City reached the quarter-finals for only the fifth time in their history after they  beat Brentford.
Ollie Watkins gave the visitors an deserved lead at the break.
Swansea produced a familiar second half revival to secure victory.
An own goal by keeper Luke Daniels in the levelled the match, before a memorable solo effort by want-away Daniel James put them ahead.
Brentford's Ezri Konsa saw red for a professional foul, and following that Swansea extended their lead with a neat Celina finish.
George Byers' low drive from the edge of the area completed the victory in stoppage-time.

Chelsea 0-2 Manchester United
A 2-0 home loss to Manchester United puts more pressure on Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, feeling the full fury of the home fans.
Italian Sarri said his team played "confused football" at Stamford Bridge.
United delivered the perfect response to their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - against Paris St-Germain in the Champions League.
Paul Pogba assisted Ander Herrera with an inch-perfect cross, before diving to head home from Marcus Rashford's delivery from the right on the stroke of half time.
Kepa Arrizabalaga got a hand to the Frenchman's header, he'll feel he should have done better.
The Chelsea fans turned on their manager; jeering substitutions, mocking his Sarri-ball philosophy, demanding the return of club legend Frank Lampard at the helm, and even joining with away support in chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning!"
Solskjaer meanwhile took the loud acclaim of United's supporters after another impressive victory.
