Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Manchester City
Son Heung-Min scored late to take a crucial advantage to the Etihad next week.
On the first European night at their new stadium, Spurs lost Harry Kane in the second half with an ankle injury, sustained during a collision with Fabian Delph.
The World Cup Golden Boot winner subsequently left the ground on crutches.
Son did not miss Kane though, twisting and turning before shooting low underneath Ederson 12 minutes from time.
Hugo Lloris had saved an early Sergio Aguero penalty, which was awarded via VAR.Danny Rose handballed in the area from a Raheem Sterling shot for a clear spot kick.
Aguero  went to Lloris' left, the Frenchman guessed correctly and was equal to the strike.
Much like their FA Cup semi-final at the weekend, Manchester City were far from their best, but they are capable of overturning the single-goal deficit at home next week.

Liverpool 2-0 Porto
Liverpool are in the driving seat in their tie, leading by two goals against Porto.
Naby Keita opened the scoring after five minutes, shooting from the edge of the area and deflecting of Oliver Torres.
Roberto Firmino couldn't miss from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross, the full-back being picked out by a stunning Jordan Henderson pass.
Porto were not without chances, but striker Moussa Marega's poor finishing means they leave Anfield without the crucial away goal.
The Mali international was denied by Alisson's feet on half an hour, and then again soon after when he scuffed a close range volley.
Two more chances went begging in the second half for Marega, Alisson saving the first, the second was blazed over the bar by the forward himself.
Alisson was forced into saving a deflected cross that was goal-bound, the significant touch of Alexander-Arnold's arm.
After a VAR check, a corner was awarded.
On another day Mohamed Salah may have seen red for a high, studs-showing tackle on Danilo Pereira's shin, but once again VAR confirmed that there was no violation of the rules.
A third goal would have all but sealed victory at the halfway stage of the tie, but they go to Portugal as favourites to progress to the last four.

Manchester United 0-1 Barcelona
Barcelona take a slender advantage back home after Luke Shaw's own goal on a frustrating night for Manchester United.
Lionel Messi was unusually quiet, as was the case for the whole of the Catalan team, but did enough to provide a chance for Luis Suarez to score, the last touch coming off Shaw for an own goal.
The 12th minute goal was confirmed by VAR after the Uruguayan was initially flagged offside.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has positives to take from the match, the team worked very hard but failed to manage a shot on target all match.
The best chance fell to Diogo Dalot, heading a first-half chance wide.
Both Philippe Coutinho and Messi forced saves from De Gea, United need to repeat their comeback against PSG at the Nou Camp to advance.

Ajax 1-1 Juventus
Cristiano Ronaldo extended his lead as the Champions League's all-time top socrer with a crucial away goal for Juventus.
The five-time winner met Joao Cancelo's cross with a diving header on the stroke of half time.
But within a minute of the second half, the hosts had equalised, David Neres curling home from 15 yards.
Both teams had late chances with Ajax's Jurgen Ekkelenkamp having a shot saved before Juventus substitute Douglas Costa hit the post.
But neither side could grab a winner and they meet in the second leg in Turin next Tuesday.
