Liverpool won a fourth Super Cup title in Istanbul, beating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties.
In the city that Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 thanks to a famous comeback, Europa League winners Chelsea took the lead through Olivier Giroud before Sadio Mane scored twice to give the Champions League winners the lead.
Jorginho scored a penalty to send the match to a shootout, where Adrian saved the final spot-kick by Tammy Abraham to seal the win.
With just one of the previous 10 meetings in Europe between the English rivals being won by more than one goal, a tight affair was expected.
The match lived up to expectations, with 120 minutes of play before the penalty shootout, there wasn't a result until 1am local time.

Adrian's penalty shootout heroics could not have been more unexpected, with the 32-year-old Spaniard without a club two weeks before winning Liverpool's first silverware of the season.
Following Simon Mignolet's departure to Club Brugge, Jurgen Klopp signed the former West Ham goalkeeper as a back up to Alisson.
Adrian's debut in the team came earlier than expected, replacing the Brazilian first-choice in the Premier League season-opening 4-1 win against Norwich on Friday.
His first start followed tonight against Chelsea, in his first competitive start since January.
Despite this he proved his match sharpness with a smart stop to deny Mateo Kovacic from close range in the first half.
He was not at fault for the opening goal - the first goal with Frank Lampard at the helm - a clinical finish across the goal by Giroud.
He gave away a penalty in extra time allowing the equaliser, when he clipped Abraham's legs in the box.
What followed were his shootout heroics, with nine brilliant penalties, he stopped the 10th with his feet from Abraham - who looked nervous while standing at the end of his run up - whose shot was weak and central.

After their 4-0 loss at Manchester United on Sunday, this defeat showed many more positives than Lampard's first match in the Premier League as a manager.
The experienced side in Istanbul fared much better than the youthful XI at Old Trafford, with Ngolo Kante the star of the show in the first half with incisive passes dominating the midfield, while Giroud provided the finishing that the Blues lacked on Sunday.
Christian Pulisic - the nearest thing to a replacement for Eden Hazard at Chelsea - starred on his first competitive start.
The 20-year-old American was creative, and showed good movement and vision.
He had a goal ruled out for offside, but his run off the ball before he cut inside and finished inside the near post suggested he was ready to fill the boots of the Belgian.
